Many believe theatre is just a form of entertainment, but that is not its true purpose. I believe theatre is here to bring beauty to the world through real, collaborative art. Theatre cannot just be a way to slip away from the struggles of the real world for a while. As humans, we have a natural longing for escape, and oftentimes, art is where we go to indulge in that feeling. But that cannot, and should not be the reason we experience theatre.
Theatre is here to tell the real, hard truths in a way that can be heard even by those hardest to reach. Its purpose is to tell true stories, actual experiences, and real emotions. Without this, theatre could be a bunch of pretty lights, sounds, and pictures with nothing but emptiness behind them.
Theatre is art, and therefore has meaning; if not, what is the point?
